The Sardis football Falcons turned in a dominating performance on both sides of the ball, shutting down the Sullivan Heights (Surrey) Stars by a 50-0 count last Friday.
DJ Stephens got the game started with a bang, running the opening kickoff back 85 yards.
The Sardis offence struggled in its first two drives, but once the Falcons found their footing they were unstoppable. Quarterback Josh Janssen completed 14 of 21 passes for 427 yards and six touchdowns.
Stephens led the pass catchers with five grabs for 229 yards and three majors while Noah Saunders, Sawyer Tether and Davies Mitchell also caught TD tosses.
Myles Joinson scored a rushing touchdown on a 48 yard run to start the fourth quarter.
Sardis barely ran the ball against the Stars, gaining 111 yards on just six carries.
Aidan Saunders led the Falcons defence with eight tackles while Caleb Moore produced five tackles and a quarterback sack. Mitchell intercepted a pass and Allie Milne recovered a blocked punt.
“What can I say. Our D was challenged to stop the run and they did a great job this week,” said Sardis coach Adam Smith. “We have a great D staff who got the guys ready to play and the players responded great. We stressed all week to get on these guys early as we did not want to be the first team to drop a game to Sullivan Heights.”
Sardis (2-1) is in Kelowna today (4 p.m.) to face the Rutland Voodoos (3-0) in a battle of one versus three in the Pacific division South.
The top team in the division makes the playoffs, so this game is a near must-win for the Falcons.
