One or two small glitches popped up but, overall, things went well during Shuswap Youth Soccer’s opening weekend, said a tired but pleased executive director Kevin Harrison Monday.
“I think everything went over fairly well.”
He said registration numbers were up a little over last season – from about 1,100 to 1,150 – probably due mainly to an increase in the TimBits program.
With a decrease in fees for the U3/U4/U5 age groups from $90 to $50 this season, numbers jumped from 75 to about 160.
For the ages of U14 to U18 boys and girls, teams could use a few more players, Harrison said, although the U16/U18 girls have plenty.
He said the association has had a great response from coaches and, to help keep costs down, is asking parents if they could take turns spending about five minutes a week putting up nets or helping out where needed.
