Like a good brother, Adam Schonewille listened to his sister.
His sister had recommended that Schonewille get involved with some of the clubs at school.
So he did.
“After that, I just liked doing that,” he said.
“I like knowing that you are helping people and being actively involved in our community.”
The 18-year-old is a Grade 12 student at Aldergrove Community Secondary School.
He serves on the school’s student council, environment club, and represented the school at the B.C. Youth Parliament in Victoria. As part of the school’s leadership program, he has spent many hours helping out in the Downtown Eastside and organizing the Alzheimer Walk for Memories.
Schonewille is also involved in Me to We, holds fundraisers for children in Africa, as well as the Halloween for Hunger and We Create Change initiatives.
And Schonewille also excels in the classroom, as one of the strongest academic students to come out of Aldergrove Community Secondary in years. Schonewille has earned top student honours in 27 courses and has never received a grade lower than an A.
He plans to attend either UBC or Simon Fraser University next year to study engineering.
Schonewille has also been a key member on his lacrosse team’s and soccer teams.
