The weather was great and so were the crowds as another edition of Parksville’s annual Sea Soil Classic rolled out at Parksville Lawn Bowling Club last weekend.
The three-day tournament, raising funds for the Oceanside Hospice Society, had 18 teams playing for prize money and Sea Soil honours.
The final game, played on Sunday before a friendly and appreciative crowd, saw Parksville’s Keith Baker, Mick Banks and Gary Robinson (skip) take on Courtenay’s Henri Saucier, Dean Penny and Vern Greenhill (skip).
Sixteen ends later, the Courtenay team tasted victory and first place while Robinson’s team took second. Runner up in the A division went to the team of Peter Zyboyovksy, Gil Simpson and Rob Matthews from Parksville.
In B division, Qualicum Beach reigned supreme. Cor Poland, David Childs and Charles MacIntyre took top honours, while club mates Doug Ives, John Wilson and George Machin took second. The Parksville team of Brian Michel, Scott Prior and Jim Patterson came in third.
Qualicum Beach’s inaugural Sylvia Gibb Women’s Pairs Tournament, held in conjunction with the Sea Soil Classic raised a combined $750 for hospice.
