About 100 young players will take to the field this weekend for the South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association (SOMBA) Tadpole division season wrap up tournament.
The youngsters, ranging in age from six to nine years, will begin the three-day event with a game Friday evening between SMBA (Summerland) and the Penticton Tigers.
A total of six teams, four from Penticton and one each from Keremeos and Summerland, will do battle in the fun event over the course of the three days.
All of the games will be at Peach Field on the northwest side of the South Okanagan Events Centre, except for an afternoon contest that will take place Saturday at McLaren Park located at 1350 King St.
The same teams compete throughout the spring season and in May the league held the annual Tadpole Baseball Jamboree over five days.
According to organizers and the coaches who work with the kids the goal is to help them learn the skills in a fun environment that will keep them coming back.

“At this age, it’s more about development. A lot of the kids haven’t played before and some of the kids played last year. There’s still someone who wins and loses the games but it doesn’t come down to the top two teams or anything,” SOMBA tadpole division director Andrea Messing said previously. “They’re just so young, some of them are really co-ordinated—(they) can catch and throw the ball and everything—some of them are not, so it’s more about just getting out there and having fun with it, they’re so cute.”
