Seaton Sonics advance to Okanagan semis

Volleyball: Senior girls AAA Okanagan Valley finals in Kamloops

The Seaton Sonics met the Vernon Panthers in an Okanagan Valley AAA senior girls volleyball championship semifinal Saturday in Kamloops.

The Sonics finished first in their pool after a clutch 25-16, 25-19 win over Kelowna’s Okanagan Mission Huskies.

Sam Scott was a killing machine for Seaton, leading the team with eight.

Setter Kalli Hamilton-Gee had 17 assists. Maddie Findlay-Proctor had nine digs, Emma Haner kept the offence rolling with 12 serves and Ella Oduro pounded the hardest kill of the day from the middle.

The Sonics fell in a tough three-set match to the South Kamloops Titans 18-25, 25-17, 10-15. Haner came on to play the second set and sparked the Sonics with a couple of quick kills. Drew Barker helped balance the team in the back row. Scott lead the team with 15 digs and Rose Harned was the best passer of the match.

The Sonics started the day off with a convincing win over city rivals VSS, 25-21, 25-21.

Dana Kievit was a wrecking machine with eight kills and eight serves. Ava Haldane was a force in the middle and Harned played well in the back row.

The Fulton Maroons and Kalamalka Lakers were competing at the AA Valleys in Kamloops while the Vernon Christian School Royals were hosting the Okanagan A senior girls finals at VSS.
