The current school year may be coming to a close, but Semiahmoo Secondary’s athletic department is already looking ahead to the fall – and has a handful of coaching vacancies to fill.
For the fall sports season, the Totems are looking for volunteer coaches for three volleyball teams – junior and senior boys, as well as Grade 8 girls. As well, the school’s cross-country team also has a head-coaching position to fill.
Semi’s senior boys volleyball team will enter the next season as the defending provincial champs, having won the B.C. high-school triple-A title last fall. The team will also graduate two senior players from this year to next, explained athletic director Steve Janzen, making them a favourite to win back-to-back banners.
The Grade 8 girls team also had a successful 2016 season on the volleyball court, winning both the Surrey and Fraser Valley championships.
The cross-country team also brought home a banner last season, having won the Surrey championship in the fall.
Anyone interested in any of the four positions can email Janzen at janzen_stephen@surreyschools.ca for more information on the application process.
