The Timbermen and the Thunder weren’t able to resolve their differences on the lacrosse floor last night.
The two senior A squads tied 9-9 in Western Lacrosse Association action on Wednesday in Langley.
The Timbermen scored three times in the final eight minutes to force overtime.
“They are a physical team, they are young and bang bodies and I think that took a little bit out of our sting,” said Rod Jensen, Thunder coach, in a press release.
Nanaimo goalie Charles Claxton made 61 saves as shots ended up 70-60 in favour of the home team. Cam Wengreniuk scored twice for the T-men and other scorers were Matt Benedict, Tyson Roe, Drew Belgrave, Jon Phillips, Gord Phillips, Jordan Gilles and Jerrett Smith.
The Timbermen will keep trying to pick up points as they jostle in the standings.
The Nanaimo Timbermen face the Coquitlam Adanacs on Sunday, June 24, and with the Adancs sitting in last place in the Western Lacrosse Association, the T-men need to take advantage of an opportunity for two points.
Nanaimo has injuries and won’t have everyone, but other players are well-positioned to step up, said coach Kaleb Toth.
“Anybody that gets called upon has to perform,” he said earlier this week. “You don’t know when you’re going to get called upon, so you have to be ready all the time.”
GAME ON … The T-men and Adanacs play Sunday at 6 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Tickets will be available at the door.
