Nanaimo’s James Scantland took a dip in the pool at the Palm Desert International Sports Festival and emerged with seven medals.
The competitive senior swimmer won a gold, a silver and five bronze medals at the Feb. 3-6 event. Swimming events were held at Shadow Hills High School in Indio, Calif.
Scantland won his gold in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of four minutes, 17.28 seconds. His silver came in the 50yd breaststroke.
