Senior Women’s Golf Championship locals

Oceanside has two entries in the mix — Parksville’s Donna Doucett and Qualicum Beach stalwart Sally Dobler.

Kelowna’s Lynda Palahniuk took a commanding four-stroke lead following round one of the 39th annual B.C. Senior Women’s Golf Championships being played out at the 5,819 yard par-72 Chilliwack Golf Club.

Oceanside has two entries in the mix — Parksville’s Donna Doucett, who looks to have traded in her hockey stick for golf clubs, carded scores of 39 and 40 on Tuesday, while Qualicum Beach stalwart Sally Dobler came in at 40 and 39 for identical 79 totals, leaving both part of a four-way tie for 12th out of 54.

Dobler’s opening round scores also had her sitting top five in the 22-player Super Senior division.

According to Golf B.C., the format for the senior women’s provincials is a 54-hole stroke play competition with no cut between women aged 50 and over as of the first day of competition. All players challenge for the overall title, and golfers aged 60+ are classified in the Super Senior division.
