Senior’s golf club to start up May 3 at Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club

The Williams Lake Senior’s Golf Club will start up on Wednesday, May 3 at the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club.

The Williams Lake Senior’s Golf Club will start up on Wednesday, May 3 at the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club.

Club president Bob Osmachenko is looking to encourage more members for this year’s group play.

“What we’d like to do is entice more seniors (50 and over) to join us on Wednesdays,” Osmachenko said.

“We have 30 members in our club but we may get 16 to 20 out on a typical day, however, we’d like more to come out and play.”

Osmachenko said that players who aren’t members of the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club can pay a $25 drop-in fee for the nine hole round.

“Some of us will play the first nine holes and then carry on to complete the back nine for a total of 18 holes,” he said.

The club meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Registration can be done on the seniors’ board at the clubhouse by signing up on the registration sheet.

“Our volunteers try to match up people that have carts with people that don’t have carts,” Osmachenko said.

“We try to have enough carts so that nobody has to walk, however, some people like to walk and that’s OK.

“This is a great way to get out, have fun and meet people. We’re not a competitive club, he said because we are out for the social aspect and golf is a good way to do this.”

He added the Williams Lake Senior’s Golf Club has two meetings per year.

“We have a tournament in the spring and one in late August. This year we are hosting an invitational tournament for all seniors in the region on June 21,” he said.

The group plays until the third week of September.
