The Billy Barker Casino squad managed to score one in the first end against the Barkerville Historic Town and Park team but their lead would be short-lived in their Quesnel Curling Sponsor League matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Team Barkerville scored two in the second before stealing one in the third and fourth ends and two in the sixth. The gamblers would score one more point in vain, as the the history buffs wrote them off, winning 6-2.
The Redz Shedz team got off to a quick start, scoring three in the first end against Quesnel Lawn Care. The Lawn Care troops would try to mount a comeback, scoring one in the second and fourth ends, but the Shedz side would score another three in the fifth to seal their fate. Redz-Shedz would go on to win the match 8-2.
The game between the Sky-Hi Scaffolding and Century 21 sides was a back-and-forth battle, which saw each team put points on the board. However, it was the scaffolding crew who would turn up the heat late, scoring three in the seventh end to deny the real estate team their commission, winning the match 6-3.
It looked as though the Service Electric team was going to make quick work of the Quesnel Child Development Centre (CDC) side, as they scored two in the first and stole points in the second and third to go up 5-0 after three ends. The kids would come roaring back, scoring three in the fourth, determined to short-out the electricity in the building. But the Service Electric squad wouldn’t back down, scoring three of their own in the fifth to make the lead 8-3. The CDC would make a valiant effort to topple the league leaders off of their thrown, adding four more points to their comeback run, but they would fall just short, as Service Electric won the match 8-7.
The standings in the league are:
Service Electric 9-2
Billy Barker Casino 6-5
Sky-Hi Scaffolding 8-3
Barkerville 6-5
Century 21 5-6
CDC 5-6
Quesnel Lawn Care 2-9
Redz Shedz 3-8
