Kelsey Serwa hopes her performance on Sunday represents a glimpse into the future.

The 26-year-old from Kelowna won a silver medal at a women’s World Cup ski cross race on Sunday in PyeongChang, Korea, the site of the 2018 Olympic Games.

Serwa fought her way through heat after heat, with photo-finish endings to earn her second podium finish on the World Cup circuit this season.

“It feels great and I’m happy to be back on the podium,” said Serwa, who also won silver in Italy in December. I wanted to finish the season strong and I’m really happy with today’s race. I raced smart and had fun.

“It’s been helpful to race here and help me build confidence for the next time we’re back in 2018.”

Fellow Canadian Marielle Thompson dominated in each heat, leading until the final round, where she clipped a ski causing her to crash through the finish line for a fourth-place finish.

It was Serwa’s third medal overall this season, as she won gold for the second time in her career last month at the X Games in Aspen, CO.

Serwa returned to World Cup competition this season after taking the the previous year off to heal from injrues and to further her education.

Serwa and her Canadian teammates will close out the 2015-16 season this coming weekend in Arosa, Switzerland.
