Seven Hills tees up new season

Seven Hills Golf and Country Club officially kicked off its 2013 season with its AGM tournament under brilliant sunny skies Sunday.

SEVEN HILLS—As usual, there was plenty of sharing of victory as Seven Hills Golf and Country Club officially kicked off its 2013 season with its Annual General Meeting tournament under brilliant sunny skies Sunday.

Tim Demoe and Cody Salo shot matching scores of 39 over nine holes of play to share the low-gross title.

Two more players — Paul Tinney and Dave Stewart — shared the tournament championship under its Callaway scoring system, a format designed to level handicaps and create close finishes. Arlo Kuber followed in third place.

Other awards went to Brayden Demoe for men’s long drive, Janet Dorward for ladies long drive, and Mike Webber for long putt on hole 9.

Following play, the 64 participants retired to the club for lunch, the awarding of prizes, and the membership’s annual general meeting.

Parent-child tourney

Seven Hill club pro and manager Kevin Black announced plans to host a nine-hole fun tournament for May Long Weekend designed to get more youth out to the course.

The tourney would pair a parent and child as a team in low-gross play against other similar pairings.

“It can be father-son, mother-daughter, or mixed, or even grandparent-granchild,” said Black, who plans to hold the tourney on the afternoon of Monday, May 20, near the end of the weekend. “In fact, anyone who wants to bring a child out can enter. We’d like to get more youth out to the course.”

A dinner will follow the tourney, details of which are still being settled. For more info or to register, call Seven Hills at 250-949-9818.

Logger tourney

The annual Loggers Golf Tournament returns to benefit needy North Island families with its two-day, scramble tournament Father’s Day weekend, June 15-16.

Registration is limited to three flights — 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and again at 8 a.m. Sunday — of 18-hole rounds. A dinner will follow each flight, with awards and prizes issued following Sunday’s round, said organizer Bill Gray.

Teams can be any configuration of men’s, ladies, or mixed. The low-gross finishers will be recognized, Gray said, but all groups will have an equal chance at the plum prizes as they will be awarded in a random blind draw.

All money raised is disbursed back into the community, to a cause or causes chosen by the Loggers Tourney directors.

Registration is $65 per player and includes greens fees, dinner and prizes. Entries will be accepted as a team, and individual entries will be placed in a foursome. The field will be limited to 150 players, so early registration is encouraged. The deadline to sign up is June 7.

To register or for info, call Bill Gray at 250-949-7623, Lito Pineda at 250-956-5234 or Roy Elderkin at 250-949-9083.
