Lots of little lacrosse players will converge on Parksville this weekend as Oceanside Minor Lacrosse hosts its long-running annual spring tourney, with the name being changed from the Dilly Bar to the Oceanside Shark Attack Tyke Tournament, or simply the Shark Attack.
The tournament goes Saturday and Sunday with games being played all day in Oceanside Place and Parksville Community Park.
“We have 15 teams from up and down the Island visiting us,” said Mike Adamowski, Oceanside Lacrosse vice president, who said that after the 2012 tournament without a home team, “we are happy to field a full team of 19 players ranging from eight years old down to five years old. We don’t have enough kids for a mini-tyke team,” he explained, “so we allow the five and six year olds to play tyke.”
Leading the youngsters will be “our committed and enthusiastic coaches,” Gary Frederickson and Brian Nikula.
