Sharks enter the post season in Lacrosse

Three games left in the season

The second season is fast approaching, and the local Sharks are licking their chops.

Oceanside Minor Lacrosse has four teams moving on to the playoffs, two of which close out their regular seasons at home this weekend.

The Bantam C Sharks, led by head coach Matt Woods and assistants Marc Norris and John Shafi, are currently 6-3 in league play, close out the regular season at home this Sunday with two games against the Westshore Whalers. Game times are 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Howie Meeker Arena.

The Midget B team, coached by Greg Sabo assisted by Current Oceanside Shark Intermediate B player James Smith, have three regular season games left — June 22, 25 and 27 — all at Oceanside Place. The Midgets are at Panorama Arena in Saanichton July 1-3 first round of playoffs on July 1-3 at Panorama Arena in Victoria.

The Bantam A team, coached by Gary Frederickson and Brian Nikula, have three games left in their season.

“Both our Peewee  B and C  teams finished off their regular season and the Peewee Bs, coached by Gary Frederickson and assisted by Dave Wheldon and Dean Bull, did quite well. They finished fourth place overall on the Island this season with an 11-4-1 record,” said Shafi, OMLA vice-president.

The Midget Cs (15-16) and the Intermediate B (17-18) teams he adds “seem to be holding the fort so to speak and standing proud.” The Intermediate B Sharks are 8-4 at this point and sitting second in the five team Island league.

The Midgets are currently 10-3 and sitting fourth in the 12-team Island league.

The Bantam Cs (13-14 year olds) struggled in the early going but look to be peaking at the right time and head into the weekend riding a  four  game win streak.

OMLA featured around 130 players on eight teams this year aged 6-18.
