Olympic gold medal-winning freestyle skier Cassie Sharpe of Courtenay sits atop the leaderboard in ladies halfpipe followng today’s qualification round at a World Cup event in Tignes, France.
Sharpe posted an 89.80. Next best was an 85.80 by France’s Marie Martinod, who placed second behind Sharpe at the Winter Games in South Korea. Sitting third is American Brita Sigourney, the Olympic bronze medallist who leads the overall World Cup halfpipe standings with 246 points. Kexin Zhang of China is second with 238 points and Sharpe sits third with 229.
Zhang is in 10th position at the event in Tignes. Sharpe is the defending winner of the event. The final is tomorrow.
