Shawnigan Hills parkrun Report for Nov. 23

Nancy Baxendale sets new female course record

An eventful Shawnigan Hills parkrun No.9 saw Nancy Baxendale of the Ceevacs Roadrunners break the female record in a time of 21:50, achieving an age-grade score of 84.05 per cent, also a record for the Shawnigan run. Junior runner Roham Mohseni was the first male finisher in 23:04. Eight personal-best times were recorded, most notably Jiarui Li, who knocked 1:18 off his previous best time, and Savonah MacAdam, who shaved a massive four minutes off her previous best time.

Two of our regulars are taking advantage of their parkrun status — register once and you can run in any of the 1,400 locations in 22 countries across five continents. Greg Lambrecht took part in the River Valley parkrun in Edmonton a few weeks ago, and David Pope plans to run the Rock Creek Trail parkrun in Portland, Oregon this weekend.

As the weather starts to deteriorate, it becomes more difficult to keep paper barcodes dry; therefore at the Nov. 30 parkrun event, we will have a machine available to laminate your barcode – thanks to Jeff Wright for arranging.

Finally, we are in need of volunteers for the event on Dec. 14, 21 and 28. Anyone who can help marshalling please email shawniganhills@parkrun.com

Register now at www.parkrun.ca/register. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come and watch — it’s up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize. We meet at Shawnigan Coffee House after each event. It is a great way to start the weekend.

Next run: Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m.
