The past seven weeks of Shawnigan Hills parkrun have seen late summer turn to fall and, in turn, the beginning of winter, from the beautiful red leaves on the trees around the athletics track to the atmospheric mist of last Saturday. I am sure we will be hit by adverse weather conditions in the coming months. The beauty of parkrun is that it is not weather-dependent: wind, rain or shine, we will be there at 9 a.m. every Saturday morning, unless the course is deemed unsafe to run on.
Three first-timers took part as first overall finisher Melanie Philipp recorded a female record of 24:13. Emma Croasdale and Rhonda Callow, both in their sixth parkrun, recorded two of the five personal-best times. Wolfgang Kuentzle and walker Elaine Hamilton took part in their fifth parkrun.
Thanks must go to all the volunteers, without whom parkrun could not happen.
Register now at www.parkrun.ca/register. Walk, jog, run, volunteer, or simply come and watch — it’s up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize — we meet at Shawnigan Coffee House after each event. It is a great way to start the weekend.
Next run: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.
