The dregs of Hurricane Ana failed to stop the Port Alberni Black Sheep last weekend as they beat Cowichan Piggies 20-7 on a soggy home rugby pitch.
Anthony Selva opened scoring for the Black Sheep with a No. 8 pick, running by three Piggies before scoring between the goal posts. Neil Thurley kick the convert and the Black Sheep were up 7–0. Thurley connected on a penalty kick to make it 10–0, then Ty Shannon scored and Thurley converted to give the Black Sheep a commanding 17–0 lead.
A final penalty kick from Thurley late in the half gave the Sheep a 20–0 lead at halftime.
Cowichan scored a try late in the game but it wasn’t enough to do any damage.
“It was a huge win for us; it was Cowichan’s first loss of the year,” head coach Jas Purewal said.
