Sheldon swings Senior title

Mike Sheldon cards career-best round en route to Vernon Golf & Country Club Senior Championship.

Mike Sheldon couldn’t have picked a better time to score a career round.

The Vernon Golf & Country Club member fired a scorching 6-under 66, including an ace on hole No. 3, on Saturday, en route to claiming the Senior Club Championship a day later at 2-under 142.

In a competitive field of more than 100 players, Dennis MacPherson also posted great rounds over the two-day event, taking overall low net at 130.

In the club Super Senior Division (70+ years), Ernie Cherkowski carded an overall low gross 159, with the low net award going to Hank Durand (141).

Winners by flight were:

First Flight – Low gross: Mark Longworth, 145; low net: Gord Johnston, 138; second net: Angelo D’orazio, 139; third net: Fred Johnston, 141; fourth net: Brian Carpenter, 142.

Second Flight – Low gross: Klass Kwakkel, 159; low net: Bob Everett, 138; second net: Art Aiello, 141; third net: Ken Wiebe, 141; fourth net: Peter Laschuk, 143.

Third Flight – Low gross: Rod Reiger, 158; low net: Dennis Edwards, 136; second net: Jake Fife, 142; third net: Gary Mifflin, 142; fourth net: Fakri Siddiqui, 143.

Fourth Flight – Low gross: Norm Korol, 170; low net: Dave Simpson, 141; second net: Hank Durand, 141; third net: Alvin Nickel, 145; fourth net: Garry Messina, 145.

Fifth Flight – Low gross: Michael Murison, 174; low net: Don Holmes-Peters, 135; second net: Don McKay, 140; third net: Dave Kennedy, 141; fourth net: Blaine Olson, 142.
