An NBA level shooting coach is coming to Abbotsford to teach young basketball players how to perfect their stroke.

The UFV men’s basketball program is bringing NBA shooting coach Dave Love to town to offer shooting clinics.

Love is the current shooting coach for the Orlando Magic and has worked with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns in the NBA.

In addition, he was a Canadian Interuniversity Sport shooting coach for nine seasons. Love has worked with several NBA players, including Magic players Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton and Dewayne Dedmon; Canadians Tristan Thompson and Anthony Bennett; and Louis Amundson.

He has also run clinics for Basketball BC, Basketball Saskatchewan, Basketball Manitoba, Basketball New Brunswick, the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, the University of Lethbridge, UPEI and the University of Regina.

In these clinics, players will learn what each part of their body should be doing, and also why they should be doing it. They will learn how positive power affects their shot, and participate in drills that Love does with NBA players to develop solid mechanics. This clinic is for all basketball players aged 11 and older, boys and girls.

The clinic runs on April 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the UFV gym, and costs $49.95. Organizers stated that space is limited for the clinics.

Any coaches who would like to volunteer to help at the clinic can contact Love at dave.love@theloveofthegame.com.
