After loosing in the Vernon Men’s Slo-Pitch League semi-finals last year, the Shuswap Mariners reclaimed their supremacy over the league, defeating the Vernon Wildcats for the league title last weekend.
The victory makes this the Mariners’ third league title in the past four seasons.
Throughout the regular season, the Mariners dominated teams and only played two full games, due to scoring enough runs in a game to force the mercy rule.
The team is made up men from Salmon Arm, Notch Hill and Enderby.
“We had some young guys in the mix this year with big bats and great defence all year,” said Mariners’ player Al Boucher.
Consistent smart hitting and solid defence were the keys to the Mariners’ success throughout the season on their Wednesday night doubleheader games.
“Hitting the ball well in slo-pitch is so important. If you’re not scoring at least 15 runs in a game then you won’t win, it’s as simple as that,” said Boucher.
