The Shuswap Swimming Team hosted a time trial and in-house swim meet on Saturday, June 11 focusing on three distinct goals: chasing down team records; having swimmers qualify to race at the provincial championships: and, thirdly, to divide the team down the middle into a Green team and a Gold team for a head-to-head dual meet.

1. 10 and under girls 4 x 50m medley relay team of Rachel Bates, Lilli Rakose-Lund, Molly Fogarty and Nina McKee.

2. 11-12 girls 4 x 50m medley relay team of Morgan Rasmuson, Emma Pyle, Paige Coutlee and Lilli Rakose-Lund.

3. 11-12 boys 4 x 50m medley relay team of Torrey McKee, Ethan Quilty, Olin Mosher and Ty Webster-Locke.

After the relays, the team got up and cheered on Olin Mosher for a fast 50 freestyle as he attempted to qualify for the Swim BC ‘AA’ Provincial Championships. Once the wake in the pool had calmed, his time was 0.16 of a second faster than the time standard. When Mosher’s time was official, the team moved on to the Green versus Gold dual meet.

In the end, the Green team prevailed, taking top honours in a closely battled contest where the lead changed back and forth several times, with the Green having 187 points, to the Gold team’s 177 points. Seven team records fell: • Lilli Rakose-Lund took down the 10 and under girls 100m breaststroke and 200 IM records; • Paige Coutlee broke the 11-12 girls 100 fly record; • Ethan Quilty earned two 11-12 boys records in the 100 backstroke and 400 IM; and • Thomas Flahr eclipsed two records for himself in the 13-14 boys 100 freestyle and 400 IM.
