Chilliwack’s U-15 soccer Striker girls hit the road for their final soccer game of the season, travelling to Tswwassen and falling 1-0 to the high-powered Wanderers.
Carrying a short-handed roster into the match (11 players, no subs), the locals held their own through the first half, keeping the Wanderers outside and preventing any dangerous chances.
Chilliwack did mount some attacks, but the lack of finish that has plagued them all season continued.
Tswwassen hit two crossbars in the first and half and another in the second. The home side shifted to a more aggressive 2-6-3 formation in the second half, tilting the field in their favour.
It was only a matter of time before the Wanderers would cash in, and they did at the 22 minute mark on one of the many scrambles near the Chilliwack net. A ball was sent through to a Tswwassen forward who appeared to be offside.
No call was made, and she slammed a shot into the far, low corner of the net. The Strikers had a couple of late chances, but couldn’t come up with the equalizer.
The Strikers would like to thank Amix Salvage and Sales for their partial sponsorship of the team this season.
