While many locals are still clinging to the last vestiges of summer, the Sicamous Eagles are ready to hit the ice.
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is kicking off its season with exhibition games, of which the Eagles have two. Up against neighbouring rivals, they start the pair against the North Okanagan Knights out of Armstrong on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Sicamous and District Rec Centre. Next, they take on the Revelstoke Grizzlies Saturday, Sept. 3, same time, same place.
The young team, with a number of returning players, returns to action on the heels of a 2015-16 season that ended with 10 wins, 34 losses, two ties, six overtime losses and a total of 28 points. It follows, however, the high of meeting a number of famous NHL faces who call Sicamous home and returned for the Canada Day celebrations this year, including Shea Weber and Cody Franson.
Both exhibition games can be attended for the special price of $5 per person, with kids under six admitted at no charge.
All are encouraged to attend and help send the Sicamous Eagles off to a winning 2016-17 season.
