Silver for United U16

The Vernon U16 United girls struck silver in the 33rd annual Kamloops Slurpee Soccer Cup, falling 4-1 to Kelowna United in Sunday’s final.

Kelowna went up 3-0 at the half before Marisa  Berg answered for Vernon on a penalty shot. Tessa Coulthard had an amazing weekend and walked away with Vernon’s MVP award for the final game. United started off the tourney with a 3-0 loss to Kelowna United. Aggressive play came from Alex Carter, Megan Prentice and Brianna Thalheimer, who received MVP for the game.

United then rode the fine play of keeper Candice Lipski to a 1-0 victory over Port Coquitlam. Vernon had many shots on net by Danielle Jackson, Janelle Cole and Emma Tassie and got a goal from Berg, Kali Wells and Isabelle Weber-Concannon enjoyed strong and aggressive games with Weber-Concannon requiring six stitches after the game following a collision. MVP of the game went to Danika Damini for her hard play.

On Sunday, United finished the round-robin by taking down Chilliwack 2-1. Tassie handled the offence for United with assists from Dory Geelkerken and Coulthard. Strong defence was turned in by from Danielle Butler and midfielder Damini, who walked away with another MVP.
