With just under a week until the Silverbacks main camp gets underway at the Shaw Centre, the club is still looking for billet families.
“The lifeline of junior hockey are the billet families,” said head coach Brandon West. “Without out billets it is a real struggle to keep a team a functional.”
Heading into this season the Silverbacks have lost three billet families, due to two of the families moving and one passing away. There were seven players between those three families. The club is searching for three to four new families this season to provide a stable and welcoming home away from home. There are many long lasting friendships that develop between players and billets. West says the billet families become a part of the Silverbacks family and often form lifelong relationships with each other.
“I still regularly keep in touch with my billets from junior hockey. You really become part of their family,” said West.
Those interested in becoming a billet for the Silverbacks can email the billet coordinator, Evelyn Cook at ecookie13@telus.net or contact her directly by calling 250- 832-5232.
