Some members of the 100 Mile House Figure Skating Club had a chance to get their competitive feet wet at the Jingle Blades Figure Skating Competition at the Centennial Arena in White Rock, Nov. 25-27.
It was the first competition of the season for three of the skaters and the first in a new level for Alyssa Lindberg who finished 10th in Freeskate in the Junior Bronze division. Paige Archie turned in an 11th-place performance in Pre Preliminary, and Michaila Robinson competed for the first time at the Preliminary level and finished in 12th place.
Brittany Boyd, with one bronze-medal competition already under her belt earned another bronze in Preliminary Freeskate. Giorgia Lanzoni had competed twice already this season before skating at Jingle Blades where she placed eighth in Pre Preliminary.
Jingle Blades attracted close to 450 skaters who came from all over British Columbia to compete, and for Lindberg, Archie and Robinson, it was their first time at that event.
Coach Rachael Lindberg says all of her girls seemed relaxed and comfortable skating in the new environment and all came away happy with their performance.
“They all skated well, and this competition gave them a look at what they’ll be up against this year.”
On Dec. 3-4, Boyd and Lanzoni skated at the Lake Country Figure Skating Competition in Winfield. Lanzoni collected a silver medal in Pre Preliminary Freeskate and Boyd placed fifth in Preliminary.
Next up for many members of the 100 Mile Club is the Cariboots ‘n Blades competition which takes place in Williams Lake, Feb. 4-6.
Lindberg says she expects the club to send about 22 skaters to the event. In the meantime, she notes they’ll be building on their routines and getting out the kinks.
She adds skaters have a lot on their plates this season, with a test day scheduled for the end of December and their biannual ice show to work on. The show is slated for March 3 and will have a magical toy box theme.
“The kids are starting to get really hyped about the ice show. They’re really eager to get started.”
