From Jan. 12 to 14, a NorAm Cup Ski Cross event is taking place at Tabor Mountain Ski Resort, located 20 minutes east of Prince George. As it coincides with National Ski Day on Jan. 14, the resort is offering a discount of 50 per cent for lift tickets on Saturday.

Ski cross features multiple skiers racing head to head down the hill on natural and artificial terrain features, including jumps, rollers, and banked turns.

Tabor last hosted a ski cross event during the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and has hosted more than 10 NorAm events since then.

“We are excited to be the first and only resort to host a NorAm Cup on National Ski Day and to be working with Alpine Canada to promote Ski Cross nationwide,” said Mitch Thibault from his groomer while building the track for this week’s NorAm. “Ski Cross is a new sport that is on the rise and Tabor Mountain is committed to future development of the sport and its athletes.”

The event takes place entirely on Eta’s Course and the rest of the mountain is open to the public. It is free to walk up and watch the excitement, with qualifiers beginning at 11 a.m. and races beginning at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 through 14.
