Apex Mountain Resort hosted the Shred Stock Slopestyle event over the weekend.

Friday night kicked things off with a railjam in the village near the Gunbarrel Saloon. The Freeride rail used was hand built and painted by Freeride Boardshop employees.

“We started it on the Monday before the event, pulled a few late nighters and pulled it together,” said Josh Brooks, who was involved with the event.

A 20-foot round down bar was built and is perfect for kids to progress on.  Brooks said they wanted to bring two features up to the mountain that it had never seen. Approximately 30 of the Okanagan’s top snowboarders participated and local DJ Careluck Spun the event to keep spirits high.

The men’s open event was won by Mike Senger, followed by Corey Kowalski and Kyle Stainton. Tim Leeuwangh won the Am open with Braden Nyhus and Matt Wonbon in second and third. Amy Norgaar won the ladies category.

Saturday featured the slopestyle event where snowboarders compete on the Claim Jumper park. On the men’s side, Fred Smith won the men’s open, while Todd McArthur and Senger were second and third respectively. In the Am open, a pair of MacLeod’s took first and second with Jake and Kaid respectively and Nyhus was third. In the evening, another rail jam entertained the village. With music blaring, skiers and snowboarders took to the rails.

On the final day, competitors performed a spot-to-spot best trick. Fred Smith took the event for snowboards and Kevin Lund and Dane Franks killed the Ski Spots.
