The top teams in the Quesnel Sponsor Curling League faced off against each other during the league’s championships and final event of the season on March 1.
The A Event saw Sky-Hi Scaffolding, skipped by Blair Hedden, take on the team with the best record in the regular season, Service Electric, skipped by Dave Plant, for the championship and year-long bragging rights.
Sky-Hi was a team on a mission, as they shut down Service Electric’s offence through four ends and took a 5-1 lead into the fifth. Service Electric wasn’t about to roll over, scoring two in the fifth and stealing one in the sixth, cutting into Sky-Hi’s lead and making the score 5-4 after six ends. Sky-Hi put their grippers back on and took hold of the game once more and ran Service Electric out of rocks, winning the game and the championship 9-4.
The Sky-Hi Scaffolding team is made up of skip Blair Hedden, third Tim Richards, second Al Sand and lead Curtis Sand.
In the B Event, the Century 21 team took on the Quesnel Lawn Care (QLC) squad in what would be a close match until the seventh end, when Quesnel Lawn Care’s last rock got stuck in the weeds and Century 21 was able to steal two to take a 6-5 lead. That would be all the Century 21 side would need to win the match, as they ran QLC out of rocks in the eighth, winning the B championship 6-5.
The Century 21 team is made up of skip Ray Blackmore, third Dave Needham, second Kyle Blackmore and lead Carol Reid.
The Barkerville and Red’s Shedz teams played a consolation match, which saw both teams fight hard for victory, but in the end, it was Barkerville that went home with the win, beating Red’s Shedz 9-4.
