Vernon’s U17 Girls Sky Volleyball Club swept the BC Volleyball Super Series in Kelowna, going undefeated among single A entries.
They were seeded in the highest pool in the round-robin along with two teams from Vancouver (Action Volleyball Club and Focus Volleyball Club) and the Prince George Kodiaks.
The Sky crew won each of their three matches in preliminary play, needing an extra third and deciding set to take their pool and then ice Kamloops in the semifinals. It was the first time the Vernon girls had defeated Kamloops this season.
Vernon then faced Focus U18s in the final, where they took the first set fairly handily but then lost the second set by almost the same margin. They then regrouped and prevailed in the third and deciding set to take the gold medal.
The U17s, coached by Troy Lorenson, are preparing for the national club championships next month in Edmonton.
