A total of 18 teams from Smithers, Frasier Lake, Burns Lake, Houston and Prince Rupert atended the annual Canadian Tire Steelhead Bonspiel at the Smithers Curling Club last weekend.
The teams competed in four divisions over the course of the three day competition, the premier bonspiel put on by the Smithers club every year.
Bonspiel Chairman Trevor Sandberg said attendance was strong, even if it wasn’t quite what it’s been in past years.
“I’m very happy with the way it turned out,” he said. “Attendance was down a bit this year, but we’re going to push for more next year.”
At the end of the weekend, the winner of the Billabong Road & Bridge Maintenance ‘A’ Division was the Brise Rink of Rob, Mike and Rick Brise, as well as Floyd “Brise” Krishan. The Pharmasave ‘B’ Division was won by the Johnstone Rink of Greg Johnstone, Norbert Freezie, Wayne Stucklberger and Torin Leach. The Hoskins Ford ‘C’ Division was also a Johnstone Rink of Dave Johnstone, Scott Martin, Enzo Chiaravalloti and Derek Hetherington. The Cam Armstrong Electric ‘D’ Division was won by the Deschamps Rink of Dan Deschamps, Carl Shields, Dave Deters and Bruce Disher.
