Snowmobile to backflip at Motocross Madness

Flying dirtbikes and insane snowmobile tricks are back for Terrace Riverboat Days this year

Flying dirtbikes and insane snowmobile tricks are back for Freestyle Motocross Madness at Riverboat Days this year and a backflipping snowmobile could be the highlight feature.

The stunning blackflip is planned by X Games Metal Mulisha rider Sam Rogers, who has performed all over the world, and makes a Terrace debut this year.

Also conquering the ramps are Reagan Sieg, X Games rider and stunt double in Star Trek Beyond, Kyle Demelo, X Games rider and Red Bull X-Fighter, and Daylan Tomshak, an up-and-comer in freestyle.

They’ll be executing the kiss of death and rock solids backflips as well as dozens of other flips and tricks at the Aug. 5 show. They’ll also be featured in the parade executing small tricks and wheelies.

“The most exciting will be having the backflip on the snowmobile,” said organizer Steve Pereira.

“It’s always exciting and we’ve done it seven times, so it goes pretty smooth now,” he added.

Organizers are planning to switch gears next year, so this will be the last motocross madness before it takes a break.

“It’s not going to be the last [motocross madness],” said Pereira, adding that they are planning to switch things up for next year.

The big hope for this year is good weather, so that the stunt riders won’t be limited in their tricks, Pereira said.

He adds a huge thanks to the Terrace businesses who are sponsoring the event: Kickstart Motorsports, The National, MacCarthy GM, City West, the Skeena Mall and Comfort Inn.

“We can’t put a show of this calibre on without the businesses. I just organize it, but without the funding, we would not get anything like this,” he said.

“These riders are some of the biggest names in North America.”

The show is at 2 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the Skeena Mall parking lot.
