The team, Fédération Camerounaise de Football, says it chose Surrey because of its sports facilities and the similarity between the city’s artificial turf fields and those at BC Place. They arrived in Surrey on May 15 and will train in the city until June 3. Tourism Surrey director Cathy James said hosting Cameroon’s athletes "puts Surrey on the map as an international sport hosting destination."

The cup commences in Edmonton on June 6 and wraps up in Vancouver on July 5. The Cameroon women’s team, 53 in the FIFA rankings, will play their first world cup game at BC Place on June 8 against Ecuador.
