Elementary school children from the South Cariboo had a great day of playing soccer and meeting new friends at the annual Soccer Jamboree hosted by Eliza Archie Memorial School (EAMS), Oct. 12.

The annual event has taken place for 15 years, and this year included 140 children in Grades 4 through 7 from six area schools.

Players were divided randomly into 10 teams, with each given a name of a Canadian province.

Students played three games of 30 minutes apiece, with plenty of time left for mingling and meeting new people.

“It’s more for fun and sportsmanship,” says EAMS resource teacher Adrian Archie.

“It gets the schools together and with mixed teams; they make new friends. Everyone had a good time.”

Coaches and referees came from the Canim Lake community and from Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School and 100 Mile House Junior Secondary.
