It’s last call for the Victoria Sport and Social Club’s inaugural winter season.
Based out of school gyms and other facilities around town, the newly formed VSSC is coming off its first full season from October to December.
“VSSC’s emphasis is on people having fun, being active, spending time with friends or meeting new friends,” said VSSC creator Tim Eberts.
Eberts and partner Shoshana Frost hatched the idea in September and were met with a huge response.
Registration closes Jan. 25 for the winter season, which is running five sports over a 10 week span from Jan. 31 to April 21. With their membership, VSSC members gain entrance to one of five leagues this winter: dodgeball, volleyball, floor hockey, indoor soccer and basketball.
“The sport is just as important as the social aspect, during and after.”
Currently finishing his second year of Royal Roads University’s master of business administration, Eberts said he saw a need for a non-biased organization with a non-intimidating environment.
“We call it recess for adults. There is precious time after the day’s work, it’s too easy to sit on the couch.”
Games are generally an hour long and members are encouraged to convene for post-game debriefing at the league’s official gathering place, the Fernwood Inn.
“What differentiates us from other organizations is we have (just enough) competitiveness to make it fun,” Eberts said.
“All skill levels are welcome.”
