Salmon Arm Sockeyes competed in Revelstoke this weekend, placing just behind the host team in overall points, as well as girls’ team points. The top boy’s team award went to the Sockeyes.
Swimming strong this weekend were the Sockeyes’ division-one swimmers, with Keeya Corbett and Julianne Moore placing first and second respectively in aggregate points for girls. Jamie Trow earned his first aggregate medal, a gold, alongside Matthew Bushell, silver, in the boys category.
In division two, aggregates included, Chantel Jeffrey’s silver for girls, while Stephen Moore and Sunny Pickup brought home gold and silver for boys. Jeffrey also broke the meet record in 50-m butterfly and 100-m freestyle while Moore broke the 50-m breaststroke record. The division-two girls’ relay made up of Jeffrey, Emma Levins, Aria-Izik Dzurko and Megan Hart, broke both the medley and freestyle records.
Division-three boys once again swept the podium with Matthew Nesdoly, bronze, Matt Cooper, silver, and Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, gold. In addition, records were broken by these boys including the medley relay record, along with teammate Gaelyn Gilliam, Nesdoly breaking the 50-m backstroke and Izik-Dzurko the 100-m individual medley. Gilliam had an excellent weekend of races including being the top qualifier in 50-m freestyle. Emma- Leigh Chapman placed second in division-three girls.
Alexander Corbett topped the podium for division-four boys. Eliza-Jane Kitchen placed first while breaking two meet records in division-five girls 200 m I.M. and 100-m breaststroke.
In division-six girls both Carmen Underhill, gold, and Natajsha Nesdoly, bronze, earned aggregates. Jacob Kitchen earned silver aggregate in division-seven boys while breaking meet records in 200-m I.M. and 100-m backstroke.
Outstanding races this weekend included Brianna Chapman winning her swim-off by taking off a second in her 50-m freestyle and Georgia Kehl’s top finish in the 50-m fly with a best time. Nicholas Lourens competed in his first meet of the season with some strong finals races. Meghan Fair also had some of her best races of the season in 50- and 100-m freestyle. David Brown, in only his second meet of the season, qualified for finals.
