After scoring goals less than a minute apart to tie the score at three midway through the third period, the Langley Knights could not complete the comeback.
Instead, it was the host Richmond Sockeyes getting a pair of goals from Troy Kaczynski for the 5-3 victory.
The junior B hockey game was played at Minoru Arena on Monday (Dec. 15).
Donovan Shambeau and Dylan McCann scored 58 seconds apart to erase a 3-1 Richmond lead before Kaczynski’s heroics as Langley lost for the second straight contest.
Tristan Craighead had opened the scoring for Langley — he has six goals in his past seven games — for the only goal in the first period.
The second period was all Richmond, as they outshot the Knights 23-5 and outscored them 3-0 with Matthew Bissett getting a pair and Tyler Andrews scoring once.
The Sockeyes outshot Langley by a nearly two-to-one margin, 46-24.
The loss leaves Langley with a record of 15-12-1-1 and their 32 points are two better than the Aldergrove Kodiaks and Abbotsford Pilots for top spot in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain Conference.
The Knights host Aldergrove on Dec. 18 at the George Preston Recreation Centre.
Richmond leads the league with a record of 24-5-0-2 and have won nine of their past 10 games.
