Solymosi stakes shutout

Vernon’s Peter Solymosi is known for his triathlon prowess.

He’s now making a name for himself as a goalkeeper, turning in Man of the Match honours as Monashee Surveying shut down Turn-Key Controls 2-0 Wednesday night at Marshall Field #3.

Solymosi was subbing for regular keeper Colin McDonell and joined Turn-Key’s Greg Douma in a superb goaltending duel.

Monashee (2-2-1) opened the scoring when Darren Nobregga’s 15-yard shot deflected off a defender past Douma.

Devon Marriott completed the scoring on a first-half penalty shot, awarded after a Monashee forward was pulled down.

Turn-Key (0-3-1) pressured hard to get back in the game, but couldn’t penetrate the solid Monashee defence or beat Solymosi. Sam Pantaleo had a fabulous showing for Monashee.

Car trouble derailed Concept Physio’s winning streak on Wednesday as they lost 2-1 to the host Revelstoke Stallions.

One car full of players was stranded for a while in Sicamous, which caused Concept Physio to start the game with nine players. Within minutes of getting a full squad on the field, it was 2-0 Revelstoke.

Concept Physio (2-3) fought hard to make a comeback with Brock Reim scoring the lone goal on a feed from Alex McDougall. Jeremy Phelan was recruited into emergency goal duty and was a standout in the midfield for the second half when he was replaced in goal at the break.

Meanwhile, Harminder Sandhu pulled the hat trick and earned Man of the Match as North Enderby Timber rocked the Salmon Arm Outlaws 7-0 at Marshall #3.

Sandhu, who used patience and creativity to jumpstart a scoring chance almost everytime he touched the ball, opened the scoring in the 20th minute.

He broke down the left wing, deked past the defence, walked across the 18-yard box and curled it around the keeper.

Eric Vivian worked a ball around with Devin Janke and eventually Vivian played a cross from deep on the right wing. The ball dropped right onto Brent Poulsen’s foot for a volley off the post and in for a 2-0 NET lead at the break.

Just five minutes into the second half, an Outlaw wing defender attempted a pass to their centre back but pressure from Vivian caused a cough up. Vivian took one touch and placed one over the keeper’s left arm.

Brodie Couch surprised his teammates by keeping a shot low and deflected a shot off a defender’s leg onto Sandhu’s foot. Sandhu buried a 15-yarder.

Speedy Brent Poulsen burned a defender deep into the Outlaw end and eventually dished a nifty pass to Couch, who placed a cross to the head of rookie Cam Smith for the effortless header.

Sandhu showed his skills again to complete the hat-trick by skinning multiple defenders, getting tricky with two step-overs, faking a shot and then blasting one to the bottom right corner.

Poulsen finished the scoring on a breakaway, putting in his own rebound. NET is 6-0, the Outlaws 0-5.

Salmon Arm Courvas shut down the visiting Davidson & Co. Dynamite 7-3 with Geoff Cox scoring twice for the (2-1-2) Nitros. Courvas improved to 3-1-1.
