More than 70 of the Okanagan’s elite basketball players participated in four all-star games on Saturday at the UBCO North Campus Gym.
The four games featured junior and senior boys and girls squads, all made up of players from the Thompson-Okanagan, including a matchup where John Garvie of the Vernon Panthers played against his dad, Glen, who coached the other team in the senior boys contest.
The game was a boat race with the team in the dark jerseys winning 105-82 behind 19 points from Michael Roualt of the Fulton Maroons, andJohn Garvie’s 18 points.
There was plenty of Vernon talent on display in the games.
VSS’ Jordyn Cullum earned player of the game in the junior girls contest, scoring a team-high 14 points in the 61-46 victory.
Megan Roualt of Fulton chipped in with seven points.
Former VSS senior girls assistant coach Bobby Mitchell coached Cullum and Roualt to the win.
Panthers teammates Jordan Korol and Karley Fugel were paired against each other in the senior girls game.
Fugel won the Panther showdown, outscoring Korol 12 to 10, but Korol’s team won the game 88-77.
The junior boys game was the closest game of them all.
The dark jerseys won the contest, 57-48, with Noah Alleyne of the Maroons chipping in two points for the winners.
