The Seaton Sonics went undefeated in six matches to win the Fulton Maroons Senior Girls Invivational Volleyball Tournament.
The AAA Sonics dispatched the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops 25-16, 25-22 Saturday afternoon. Head coach Geoff Huggins noted that Ava Haldane started the match by serving tough and Dana Kievit had seven kills.
Sam Scott and Drew Barker were marvellous in the back row, while Kenzie Nieuwenhuis came in to make some hustle plays at right side.
“The Sonics were determined and chased down several balls to continue the rallies,” said Huggins. “Ellen Van Buren was killing the ball from the pipe.”
The Sonics earlier swept the AA Maroons 25-14, 25-19. Setter Kalli Hamilton-Gee had 16 assists and distributed the ball well, while Emma Haner played a strong all-around game.
Seaton capped the seven-team tournament by grounding the VSS Panthers 25-18, 25-16. Ella Oduro had five kills in the middle, while Rose Harned delivered some great passes. Van Buren was dominant with seven kills.
“Ava Haldane had a wonderful tournament and earned the tournament MVP with great serving, timely blocks and terrific kill shots,” said Huggins. “The Sonics looked great as they elevated their level of play and sped up the offensive attack.”
The George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country took second spot, sweeping the Kalamalka Lakers 25-20, 25-23 and icing the third-place Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops 25-23, 25-14 Saturday.
The Vikes were third, brushing back Fulton 25-22, 22-25, 15-8 Saturday. Fulton was fourth after icing the Lakers 20-25, 25-8, 15-10.
