The Similkameen Elementary Secondary Sparks put in a strong showing, finishing fourth in the province in the 16-team girls A division soccer championships on the weekend in Penticton.
Similkameen was undefeated in the three-game round robin portion of the tournament to clinch first place in the B division with nine points.
In the quarterfinal match, they met Langley Christian School which was also undefeated in round-robin, winding up on the short end of a 3-2 score after overtime and nine penalty kicks.
From there they went on to face Immaculata Regional High School of Kelowna to determine third and fourth place with Kelowna winning the game 2-0.
We, at the school are extremely proud of the girls results,” said SESS athletic director James Brown. “Placing fourth is Similkameen’s best result in Girls Soccer Provincials. The girls showed great team work, resiliency and true grit to push them to that fantastic result.”
In the final match of the tournament Saturday, it was Victoria’s Glenlyon Norfolk Secondary emerging as B.C. champions with a 3-1 win over Langley.
The Sparks opened the event with a 4-1 win over Nakusp and added two more victories, 3-1 over Southpointe Academy of Delta and 3-2 over Port Hardy to close out the round robin.
