A third-place finish for the Trinity Western Spartans means a date with the No. 2 Simon Fraser Clan in the best-of-three opening round B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League series.
The Spartans and Clan drop the puck in game one tonight (Thursday) at the Langley Events Centre. Game two is Friday at Burnaby’s Bill Copeland Arena and if necessary, the third and deciding game would be Sunday and also in Burnaby.
SFU was 19-3-0-2 on the season while Trinity Western was 10-13-0-1.
The Spartans closed the regular season over the weekend with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Selkirk Saints at the Castlegar Recreation Centre. The victory allowed the Saints to jump past SFU for top spot in the regular season.
The Spartans also lost 6-5 the night before in Cheney, Wash. against the Eastern Washington Eagles.
