The Trinity Western Spartans men’s soccer squad capped off a tour of the Pacific Northwest with a 1-0 defeat to the Concordia Cavaliers in Portland on Sunday.
The Cavaliers scored the game’s only goal late in the first half.
“We started very strong and came out like gangbusters but missed four quality chances early,” said Spartans coach Pat Rohla.
“And we did everything but score in the final minutes.
“But we can’t play 40 minutes and expect a good result.”
“It’s a little disappointing, but we remain convinced we can be a good team.”
Trinity Western, which opens the Canada West season on Sept. 9, finished the pre-season with a 3-2 record.
They began their exhibition schedule with a 2-0 loss to the Oregon State Beavers, before rebounding to win three straight — 1-0 over the Seattle Pacific University Falcons, 3-1 over the Seattle University Redbirds, and 5-2 over the Warner Pacific Knights. All five games were on the road.
