The QJS Spartans were in Prince George last weekend to run.
And run they did, finishing the run with racers peppered throughout the top finishers in various classes.
The QJS girls did well, catching a first and second in bantam and juvenile categories.
Grace McTaggart, running for QJS in the bantam girls category, took first in her group, as well as sixth over all in the female category, the only bantam girl in the top ten.
Kyra Teetzen took second in the Juvenile category for QJS.
The QJS bantam boys were competitive as well.
Brennan Schwartz nabbed third in Bantam for QJS, while his teammate, Dawson Dillman, took tenth.
This wasn’t the first race for the Spartans this year. The team had, one week earlier, made a trip to Prince George to run in the Cottonwood Island High School Cross Country Running Meet on Saturday Sept. 15.
Once again the girls did quite well at the meet.
McTaggart took first in bantam girl’s category. Kyra Teetzan was third in the Juvenile girls category, followed by teammate Elisha Balazo in fourth.
The Bantam boys placed up top as well. Brennan Schwartz took second in bantam boys, with teammate Dawson Dillman close on his tail in fourth. Dylan Cathcart placed third in juvenile boys.
The D.P. Todd race of last Saturday, following a course from D.P.Todd through Moore’s Meadow, is the team’s first taste of the year for the area they will be running in both zones and provincials.
This is the first time in 40 years the B.C. High School Cross Country Running Championships will be held in Prince George, at DP Todd Secondary, a fact that QJS coach, Scott Trueman is happy about.
“Usually our runners must make the long journey to the Lower Mainland or Vancouver Island, but not this time, our runners will have the advantage of running on a familiar course,” Trueman said.
Correlieu has as of yet to field their entire team in a meet. This, however, should change as the two schools will be hosting a race at 10 Mile Lake this Saturday, starting at 11:00.
