It was a clean sweep in the men’s and women’s divisions at a season-opening cross-country race.
Declan White became the first Trinity Western Spartans male cross-country runner to win the University of Washington’s Sundodger Invitational while Regan Yee overtook top spot with 100 metres to go at Seattle’s Lincoln Park on Saturday.
White finished the eight-kilometre race in 23:59.90 while Yee won the women’s six-kilometre event in 20:29.30.
Three other Spartans also cracked the top 11 as Joel De Sciffart was fifth (24:27.40), Caleb de Jong was seventh (24:34.00) and Levi Neufeld was 11th (24:44.90). Nick Colyn came in 23rd (25:03.90).
Lisa Brooking (20:52.30) and Mirelle Martens (21:05.40) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, while Meg Harradine (22:23.30) and Joanna Williams (22:27.10).
Both the Spartans top five and both the men’s and women’s team finished first overall in the team competition.
The Spartans return to action on Oct. 8 at the Western Washington Classic in Bellingham.
