The Trinity Western Spartans used the long-ball to their advantage, hitting on more than half their three-point attempts to snap a three-game losing streak.
The women’s basketball team went 11-for-21 from beyond the arc in a 82-76 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre.
The Pronghorns had beat the Spartans 67-55 the night before.
Both teams are 3-3 in Canada West play.
“I thought we really showed well team wise. We got great contributions from a lot of different people, which is critical,” coach Cheryl Jean-Paul said.
“I think the most important thing for us is that we were able to recover from yesterday’s game. I think we played the tempo that we wanted, and did things that we wanted to do to get a win.
“I’m really proud of the team. Obviously winning is nice, but more than anything I’m proud of the recovery. With such a young group, this is a big win for us.”
The Spartans were led by Kayla Gordon’s 25 points. She also had seven rebounds and seven assists. Natalie Carkner and Jessie Brown both came off the bench and nailed five three-pointers apiece.
In Friday’s game, the Pronghorns outscored the Spartans 20-11 over the final 10 minutes, turning a three-point game into a double digit victory.
Brown had 16 points to lead the Spartans, while Luca Schmidt had a dozen points, 11 rebounds and four assists. She also had two steals and a block.
Trinity Western is on the road this weekend for a pair of games against the Brandon Bobcats.
