Dozzi breaks record

On Dec. 1, Dozzi ran the Under 20 Indoor 5k race and broke the national record by 0.05 seconds. Despite having his shoelace come untied in the first quarter of the race, he continued to run without tying them back up and sprinted to the finish line. The previous top record was held at 14:18:97 since 2016. Dozzi also won the U20 National Cross Country Championships in Kingston, Ont. the previous weekend.

Highest medal count

Hosting the Kal-How-Ya skating competition this year from Nov. 30 – Dec. 2, doesn’t mean the Terrace skating Club had to skate humbly. They took home the highest medal count for the weekend compared to the other northern clubs. Collected by 12 skaters in the Star 4-10 events, there were 15 golds, 10 silvers, three bronzes. Two skaters in the Star 1-3 events received gold evaluations.

Third place in Provincials

Centennial Christian Boys’ Seahawks placed third in the British Columbia Boys “A” Volleyballs Provincial from Nov. 22 – 24 in Prince George. They lost the semifinals against the Vernon Royals, but redeemed themselves in the bronze medal match when they defeated Kelowna Christian in three straight sets. This is the sixth consecutive year that Centennial has medalled at provincials.

Power up

Female powerlifter Lucy Botelho, from North Coast Health & Fitness, competed on Vancouver Island in November and won Best Overall Woman Lifter. Bothelho missed out on the BC Provincial Championships earlier this year due to injury, but has been making a great recovery with many gains and medals since.

The fight for gold

Olivia Woods medalled gold in the Canadian Taekwondo Federation International (CTFI) National Championships in Calgary from Nov. 10 – 11. Atlantis Taekwondo had eight youths and teens compete in the championships. All athletes from Atlantis Taekwondo medalled in either patterns, sparing, or both.

No losses

The Suwilaakws Wolverines remained undefeated throughout the entire volleyball season. Their Suwilaawks motto, “Work hard, be kind and have grit,” were the words that the team took to heart on the court.
